On Saturday, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh highlighted the significant risks associated with neglecting safety measures like wearing helmets. His remarks were made during a free helmet distribution event held on Atal Path in Bhopal as part of a road safety awareness initiative called 'Seva Pakwada'. During this event, 2,100 helmets were handed out to young individuals.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to prioritize their safety and that of their families by being responsible. He emphasized that two-wheeler riders should commit to wearing helmets, which serve as a protective shield and can save lives.
Yadav noted that the road safety awareness week, initiated during Navratri, is a commendable effort aimed at increasing awareness about life-saving practices. He called on the residents of the state to wear helmets and adhere to road safety regulations.
He stressed the importance of youth taking responsibility for their own safety. To reduce road accidents, Yadav mentioned the implementation of patrol teams, checkpoints, sensor check posts, digital fines, speed guns, live traffic monitoring, and the Fastag system.
Additionally, the Chief Minister announced that under the 'Rahveer Scheme', citizens who assist accident victims by transporting them to hospitals will receive a reward of ₹25,000.
An official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, reported that after the Chief Minister's departure, there was a brief chaos at the helmet distribution site as a large crowd gathered, leading to some individuals pushing and shoving to grab the free helmets. Some were successful in obtaining helmets.
